Hallmarked Gold

What is BIS Hallmark?
BIS Hallmark is a certification system that ensures the purity of gold and silver jewelry sold in India. Issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standards organization, this certification verifies that a piece of gold jewelry meets the purity standards set by BIS. Hallmarking protects consumers' interests by providing a reliable way to confirm the authenticity of the precious metal. Shine Eternal is a certified and authorized jeweler, and all our jewelry is BIS Hallmarked. You can be assured of the authenticity when you buy from Shine Eternal.

Components of a BIS Hallmark
A BIS Hallmark on gold items includes five distinct marks, each confirming that the metal meets the purity standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards. These components are:

1. BIS Standard Mark: This triangular mark signifies that the gold has been evaluated and certified for purity by an independent third-party assessor.
2. Purity Grade: This is a fineness number corresponding to the carat value of the gold. Gold in its purest form is 24 carats (24k), but it is often alloyed with other metals for durability in jewelry. In India, gold jewelry typically ranges from 14k to 22k, with fineness numbers like 916 (22k), 750 (18k), and 585 (14k), indicating the percentage of gold in the alloy.
3. Hallmarking Centre’s Mark: This mark identifies the hallmarking center—an independent third party approved by BIS—where the gold was assessed and verified. It allows for traceability in case of any discrepancies.
4. Year of Marking: This mark indicates the year the item was hallmarked, represented by a code letter assigned by BIS (e.g., 'A' for 2000, 'B' for 2001).
5. Jeweler’s Mark: This is the unique logo or symbol of the BIS-certified jeweler or manufacturer who produced the item.

These five marks are stamped clearly on hallmarked items. Always check for these imprints when purchasing jewelry to ensure authenticity and purity.
